Fresh Vegetables & Our Urban Homestead

About six weeks ago, Sam and I cleared a sunny, un-grassed space in the yard formerly reserved for a tangle of hose and a shortcut to the garage, turning it into our first vegetable garden. My Grandmother would call it a Victory Garden; that’s the term I grew up with. Well, between the war, the economy, and the record deficit Bush is leaving us with, we could use a little homegrown victory.

California Court Affirms Right to Gay Marriage

The Supreme Court of California ruled 4-to-3 to strike down state laws that had limited marriages to unions between a man and a woman. California is now the second state, after Massachusetts, to allow same-sex marriages.

“In view of the substance and significance of the fundamental constitutional right to form a family relationship, the California Constitution properly must be interpreted to guarantee this basic civil right to all Californians, whether gay or heterosexual, and to same-sex couples as well as to opposite-sex couples,” wrote Chief Justice Ronald M.
