Sam and Bronson by Tom Bianchi

In late March, Sam and I were invited to Tom Bianchi‘s home in Palm Springs to be photographed for one of his upcoming Bianchi Men collections. It was an honor and a privilege, and a learning experience that transcended the photography itself. Tom shared with us the philosophy behind his art.

It’s always fun to be shot with Sam, and I was thrilled that Tom was recording the last fleeting days of my thirties. This was the week before my 40th birthday.

The photos have arrived, and Sam and I are really pleased. I think they really capture the excitement of the day, and the intimacy Sam and I share. I love the ones with Sam reading Tom’s copy of Where the Wild Things Are, dedicated to him by his friend, Maurice Sendak. Tom said he’d send one to Maurice, and Sam was thrilled. So here are the shots I can share with you. Warning: if you click here, you will see our butts. Continue reading ‘Sam and Bronson by Tom Bianchi’

Photo Shoot with Tom Bianchi

Tom Bianchi will try to tell you that he’s not a great photographer. “What I don’t know about photography would fill many, many volumes,” he said to Sam and me this past weekend, with a humble grin. I’m not certain I agree, but nonetheless, he is a great artist who, for decades, has worked with subjects to create and capture moments that translate into beautiful, iconic images.

“I always take a lot of pictures and then God gives me some great ones,” he said, skimming through the thousands of shots he’d taken of Sam and me over the previous two and a half hours. He even let me shoot a few of he and his boyfriend, Aaron, as we took a break – according to Tom, something he’s never done before. It was an honor.

Lindsay Lohan: Underemployment (un)Dressed as Homage

original.jpgThis whole LiLo as MaMo thing rings a little hollow. Clever PR, but how can this juxtaposition really say anything good if it’s saying anything at all? Similar drug dependencies? Remotely similar cultural significance? Lindsay is the new Marilyn? A foreshadowing? God forbid.

You’re gorgeous. We get it. We’ve been getting it since The Parent Trap had suburban Dads with prurient interests insisting on a trip to the theater. I never thought the girl had chops until Sam and I saw Bobby on the flight back from Spain. Given the right material, she could act her way out of a safe.

Not enough good roles? Damages has a great role for her. Maybe her people should contact my people. Let’s make it happen.

Maybe Billy’s just cranky and it’s just the fantasy come to life of a little girl to walk around in a legend’s scarf, or a quasi-interesting way for her to finally bare it all, but it looks more like young Hollywood has run out of ideas, identities, and images, and regurgitates this kind of sensationalist stuff. And again, this is coming from someone who LIKES Lindsay Lohan.

If this isn’t a good reason to further celebrate the end of the WGA strike, nothing is. Let’s get pen to paper, writers. Talent needs something to do.
