Palm Springs Rodeo: Chute Doggin’, Second Go

The ice on my ankle for a few hours sure did make the difference the next morning, when we cowboyed up and headed back out to Banning for the second day of events. Driving in the car, I started to feel all of the little muscles here and there that were sore, and I got a real appreciation for the athleticism of rodeo, after all it is a sport, no matter how well-dressed. Chute Dogging: First Time Competing

In 24 hours or so, I will be dogging a steer in an arena, in front of hundreds of people. My stomach just tightened thinking about it. I’ve felt like an old football coach over the past few days, watching old reels of chute doggers, making mental notes: hold on, out to the line, listen for the whistle, push him right, push him back, throw him off balance, turn left and stay on the outside of the steer, dog him.

It’s going to be great. I’m going to kick ass, and come back a winner. Stay tuned.


Palm Springs Bud Light Hot Rodeo 2008

Sam and I joined the Golden State Gay Rodeo Association (GSGRA), so that I can compete in Chute Dogging at the Palm Springs Rodeo.

If you’re considering attending this rodeo, to dog a steer yourself, or to cheer me on, it’s May 2nd through 4th, and the host hotel is the Palm Court Inn.
