Early to Bed, Early to Rise

Sam gets up at 4:30, and I sleep in ’til 7:30, almost every morning.  “Delicious sleep,” he said to me recently, “you get 780 more hours a year than I do. That’s like a whole month.”  It’s actually 32.5 days.

How adorable I must be, drowsily wishing him a great day as I snuggle back into the pillows and drifting back off for another couple of hours, as Sam departs, his sleep envy fermenting into mild resentment.  It took a day to sink in, and so this morning I set my iPhone alarm for 6:30, with productivity in mind.

“Really?” I was incredulous, because it was one of those more-real-than-reality dreams and I couldn’t believe my ears. “You’re not serious.”

His trademark ever-sensible tone told me he was serious. “Think of the money we pay Dora every week. Now think of the fact that we have two extra bedrooms. Now think about the dogs having a walk every day, and everything being (said with all the reverence Virgos give this word) *clean*… every day.”

Dream Sam had a point.

I’m reading Tim Ferriss’ book right now, and it sounds like something he’d totally go along with. Continue reading ‘A House Boy?’
