Why Don’t Republicans Just Come Out?

I really feel for Glenn Murphy, even though he’s an idiot. When will these GOP dudes learn to come out with some dignity? They’re setting us back decades.

Glenn Murphy Jr., is the newly resigned chairman of the Clark County Republican Party and newly resigned president of the Young Republican National Federation (which sounds eerily like something Hitler might have been into).

After a Young Republicans get-together last July, Murphy and a 22-year old buddy of his retired to a pair of bunk beds to sleep it off after a night of tax breaks and tequila shots. The next morning, the 22-year old woke up to find out what Murphy meant when he talked about “getting ahead” with the Young Republicans. The kid just wasn’t into it. He put away his poll and went to the cops.

They say there might not have been charges if it had been the first time Murphy “reached across the aisle,” so to speak. In 1998, a 21-year-old male filed a similar report with Clarksville police claiming Murphy attempted to perform a sex act on him while he was sleeping. Charges were never filed in that case.

Now Murphy has plead guilty to “Deviant Behavior”, a class B felony, will have to register lifelong as a sex offender, and will do some hard time. At least he’s already familiar with one of his new prison roles and he’ll lose those fifteen pounds of self-hate.

Look, the drunk blow job is the oldest trick in the book, and almost as pathetic as pretending to be asleep while you’re getting one. Dude, haven’t you heard of Craigslist? I’m certain even the Indiana list is swimming with 22-year old “straight” dudes, and more than a few Republicans.

The whole thing makes me ask, was Murphy’s behavior criminally deviant because the guy was asleep or because it was guy-on-guy? Isn’t sex with the unwilling or the unconscious simply rape, or does that entail penetration? It just seems like an archaic or simply homophobic name for a charge.

And more interestingly, what of this litigious chicken? Why couldn’t he have simply said, “Dude, I’m just not that into you,” and saved taxpayer dollars? What was the motivation? Disregard for civic resources, or something a little… more… personal?

You decide.

I can’t speak with any authority about the lack of dignity (wait, when I put it like that, it sounds like something anyone could speak about, LOL) However, with respect to the charges, I can tell you that in the [backward] state of Indiana, it is legally impossible for one man to rape another. Yep. Indiana’s archaic rape law stipulates male genital penetration of the female genitals without mutual consent. And Indiana has that nifty “deviate sexual conduct” law, too, SPECIFICALLY to cover male-male rape — so yes, it’s a homophobic charge.
