Our Anniversaries

Yes, “Anniversaries” plural, because Sam and I mark our first date and our wedding date, both on the 21st, and half a year from each other. It’s been two and a half years since our first date, and a year since the wedding. Neither of us can believe it’s been a year.

We had dinner last night at Whist at the Viceroy in Santa Monica, recommended by my friend K-Dub, and chosen for lots of reasons, not the least of which was its inclusion on American Express’ IN LA card partner list. Hey, it seemed fitting that we’d use the points we’d racked up on that card, mostly from the wedding and honeymoon, to garner us a free anniversary dinner a year later.

Liesel, a beautiful, sassy blonde took very good care of us, taking us from a glass of rose brut (like we served at the wedding) to ceviche and tuna tartare to the Côte de Boeuf & Jumbo Shrimp for Two (with sweet potato fries, asparagus and truffle béarnaise) with Fisher Vineyards’ 2005 “Unity” Cabernet, to warm oatmeal butterscotch blueberry cookies with earl grey ice cream, all the while being simply irresistible in the spaces between.

Sam and I celebrated the best parts of the past year, laid the worst to rest, and enumerated the things we’d like more of, and less of, in the coming year. We agreed to do a better job of focusing our attention on the things most important to us: lazy weekends peppered with bite-sized home improvement projects; excision of the unduly negative and distracting, and stuff that clutters; maximum travel, and a continued dedication to cuddling. We made a plan to increase the mellowness and committed to not over-commit. That’s a tough one.

I also reflected on the time I’ve spent without my Grandfather, whose birthday is 4/21, as well. He was the best Dad a kid could ever have wanted, and I’m sure Mom would agree.

Speaking of kids, for Sam and me, they’re definitely, indefinitely on hold. Dogs are plenty.

We’ll be celebrating at home tonight. The cake is defrosted. The bubbly is chillin’. Mmmmm.

Such a great move to put the negatives behind and keep the positives in the present and future . It is a wonderful tool in keeping sane. A very Happy Anniversary to you both. You so deserve it.

The happiest wedding in my life was yours. You and Sam are my happiness and you continue to be the breath that I take. I am so very proud of how well you take care of each other and how fair and loving you are to each other. Simply put…You and Sam are the quintessential positive life lesson. Add to that, you have only just begun. I send the two of you all my love forever,

EARL GREY ICE CREAM??!?!!!! You two are the luckiest boys EVER.

For the ice cream, I mean. It can’t be LUCK that you two are together. Must be FATE, divine blessings from the universe, a way-magnified version of how I feel to have met you both.

Rock on, and keep it real. Much love forever and ever. Amen!
