Drag Show, Good Friends, Hiker Still Lost

hikersmoon.jpgP.S. Did I mention that Art Garfunkel and his family are here?

I have to amend this post. I thought we were coming home today, but our flight has been cancelled. I know, boo-hoo. We are now scheduled to leave tomorrow afternoon, and the trip will take all night. They haven’t yet found the hiker, and it really casts a pallor on the end of this trip. We saw his wife on our way to breakfast this morning, walking, stone-faced. Truth be told, this is a bit of a change from her demeanor last night, which wasn’t exactly that befitting a merry widow, but were it Sam lost up in that mountain, I would be calling for him, not tapping my foot at a Moroccan-style dinner.

We gathered on the beach for the last time as a group, had drinks and relived some of the moments of the week. We exchanged cards. India did another spectacular show. Dinner was, well, dinner.

It was the last night on the island. A man was lost. Friends had been made. Art Garfunkel and his family enjoyed room service or some remote table in the corner of the restaurant. Being the last night on the island, it became plain to see most of the final barriers had fallen, and some week-long intentions were going to manifest. The indie from Indy was sure to have ‘fit in’ somewhere; the Florida boys were certainly not without company; and then there’s the staff. Sam and I had had enough festivity, and so we bid our couple-crush, Nick and Pierce, goodnight and returned to our bungalow while the after parties raged on in the bungalows all around us.

The moon last night was spectacular, hiding behind clouds, which moved and swirled to reveal it. As Sam and I walked home, hand in hand, I couldn’t help but think that the guy may have been somewhere on the mountain seeing the same moon and wondering if it was to be his last. As last moons go, it would have been a great one.

More about the hiker’s story and the rest of our trip in our upcoming articles in Passport Magazine, who along with VIP Escapes and Standout Vacations, sponsored this Escape with the Stars.

    Hi Boys,
We are now in Chicago on our way back from Bora Bora….we should be home by midnight Tuesday (ugh). We are passing the time reading your blogs from the past couple of days! We hope that you are able to make it off the island tomorrow…and if not, it will be great fodder for your blog…you have pen and paper no? 😉 It was such a pleasure meeting you both! India won’t shut up about you two!
This trip was made even better by sharing it with great guys like you! 😉
    Hugs!
    Frank and Peter
